Our ethical policy

The design of research involving children will always deliver a valuable learning experience appropriate for the children’s age. We will only discuss brands, products and experiences that are relevant and appropriate to the children. All of our work shall be compliant with MRS guidelines. All KI staff have an enhanced CRB check renewed annually. We will not undertake projects that are designed to inform strategies to increase consumption of HFSS goods. Participation is always voluntary and the decision of the child. Consent is confirmed in writing before any interview takes place.

Children and parents will be fairly compensated for their time and input. Moderators will always speak with parents before the research and offer the opportunity for feedback. Children are always interviewed in-home, often with friends, in order for the interview process to be as comfortable as possible. A parent is always present.

These may include members of the public, current, past and prospective employees, funded bodies and suppliers. In addition we may be required by law to collect and use information in order to comply with the requirements of central government. This personal information must be handled properly under the Data Protection Act 1998 ('the Act'). The Act regulates the way that we handle 'personal data' that we collect in the course of carrying out our functions and gives certain rights to people whose 'personal data' we may hold.

We consider that the correct treatment of personal data is integral to our successful operations and to maintaining trust of the persons we deal with. We fully appreciate the underlying principles of the Act and support and adhere to its provisions.
